This exciting new dog discipline has taken the canine world by storm! Why?
Because it's tailor-made for dogs who need both mental and physical exercise
in a rewarding way. Dogs absolutely thrive on using their natural scenting
abilities and it's truly heartening to see them wholeheartedly dive into their
work.
You can choose between Saturdays at 08:00 - 09:00 or Wednesdays at
18:00 - 19:00 (only during the summer months).
We primarily operate out of our Honeydew facility, where we have access to
fantastic training fields, paddocks, an activity trail and nifty buildings that
provide an environment filled with twists and turns – a perfect blend of fun and
challenge. Occasionally, we venture to external venues to keep things exciting and ensure our dogs and
handlers generalise their skills effectively.
Now, here's the lowdown on what you'll need for this class:
•
CGC Bronze certification from a McKaynine school
•
A sturdy leash and a comfortable harness for your dog (they'll be doing some pulling)
•
Treats and toys to keep their motivation sky-high
•
A long line (not essential at the beginning, but it can come in handy later)
If you're ready for an adventure filled with scents, twists, and turns, we'd be thrilled to have you join us!
Spaces are limited, so drop us a line to reserve your spot today!
Is mantrailing the same as tracking?
Mantrailing and tracking, are like cousins at a family reunion.
They both involve dogs following a trail, usually a
human's scent trail, but here's the twist:
Tracking: Dogs go full-on Sherlock Holmes,
following every single step and even sniffing out
dropped items along the way. Deep nose action
vibes.
Mantrailing: It's more like a race to the finish line. Dogs
aim to find the end goal as quickly and safely as possible.
Is mantrailing only suitable for working
breeds?
Heck no - mantrailing isn't just for those classic
working breeds. Any dog that's fit, healthy, and
raring to go can rock it!
Can puppies do mantrailing?
Now, about puppies – they're cute and all, but at
McKaynine, we like 'em a bit older for
mantrailing. We ask for a CGC Bronze
certification before joining the class, which
usually puts the dog at around 9 months or older.
